  • so soon

Torti is being adopted by a sweet family. They came to meet her and I believe it’s a very good match.

fettuccine is going to be the largest goofy puppy that will need another dog to play with. Her paws twice the size of the others, and a personality to match. If I were younger, I would really like this for dock diving or agility. She’s a natural.

we finalized Ebonys adoption paperwork yesterday. She has already settled into a routine. She has claimed her space on the couch. She is doing very well on her house training and milo doesn’t mind her a bit…she’s quiet and calm.

All puppies are individual. I’ve had litters through the years and although they’re genetically connected, the hierarchy becomes evident in a group.

all of these puppies are special 💖 they are socially well adjusted and easily trainable. We’re sitting for a treat and thank God potty training pretty much done.

I didn’t expect for it all to be over so quickly….so now I’ll be blogging on Ebony’s development and stay. Omgoodness…she’s incredible 👏

  • Whew!

When they crash, so should you. I giggle as I write this. 16 years ago I was much younger, and I had divided up four litters of pups between foster homes.

I remember now how exhausted I was… 😊 of course. It’s a good tired fostering multiple babies. Observing behaviors, while each individual litter is different, one can see the personalities emerge.

Ours is the tiny one. She has a very soft heart ❤️ even the slightest correction or tummy rubs were followed by a tinkle.

Being the hovering mama I imagined all sorts of issues. 😆 However as of today, she seems to have gained enough confidence to allow Being picked up without showering me with her love ❤️ 😆

I better wind this up as naptime is almost over. The rain has finally stopped so we’ll venture out to run laps around the pool.

  • Hovering foster mama ❤️

when I took in these pups I knew the responsibility. When they’re not yours, you have your eagle eyes on them. I see them playing and pick up something such as a river rock around the pool, and they have found all my missing gardening tools 🔧 😆

we have our routine down. They know they get a cookie (dehydrated liver) if they go into their pen. Then a cold chewy from the freezer. They’re teething so this really helps.

Ebony is still working on gaining confidence. She is very shy in temperament, which is perfect for our home. She is very quiet. Milo appreciates that. He tried to engage her in play which I was happy to see. His hip is bothering him a bit, and she seems to sense that.

  • Rainy days have challenges

While the rain falls ,we learn boundaries. We have pouring rain, and while we’re still going outside every hour in the rain when it lets up we have challenges. The pens i use are large puppy exercise pens. Blankets, toys, food /water and my secret weapon…a frozen Kong with pnut butter and dehydrated liver. Instant quiet.

The puppies continue to grow and thrive. I’ve observed personalities and the differences are really surprising.

we are still searching for foster homes for 2. These are very easy puppies in my experience.

white paw, as I refer to her is fearless, most social and is so happy go lucky. Yellow collar is her sidekick. Very funny and social. She’ll do great with positive training in most any environment. Now my little girl is the runt…she is barely 15 lbs while the other sisters are 20+ we observed she is separate from her sisters. While they all play, because of her size they can take advantage. Most times she is with us while the sisters tear through the yard.

we’ve decided to call her Ebony. She is doing so well. She is learning and so smart. One correction (she is an extremely soft temperament) …gently and she doesn’t seem to forget…possible obedience trial puppy? Focus is definitely there. Til later. Have a blessed memorial day. Remember what they gave their lives for. Our constitution.

  • routine is key

Fostering these pups has been a refresher for sure. We’re on day 4, and they’ve established their routine.

Up by 6:30, breakfast, 2 hours play and chase, then into their large pen with toys and dog beds. They come right in for their beef liver treat.

this lasts a couple hours then up, play, snack before lunch.

We have English type gardens which are blocked off, however they learned how to open the garden gate! They’re so smart…

our pups are going to be tremendous family members. They’re so much like my wirehaired pointers…clowns and full of intelligent mischief.

our evenings are quiet…nap and then dinner. We go out and potty before bed. And the greatest news of all is they’re getting the house training. I couldn’t be more pleased. Really pleased…anyone that has had puppies know what I mean 😆

  • oh we’ve been busy

it’s been 3 days of fostering these beautiful babies! It’s been 15 years since I’ve had pups, lots of adults…but no pups.

to say I was a bit nervous was an understatement. What God or the universe knew was I needed them. My heart was broken 💔 after the loss of Baldwin. I was considering therapy…well, this was the best therapy anyone could have imagined.

we are looking for 2 more fosters for babies left behind.

  • After a long day of travel with volunteer Becky and her daughter 💕 the babies made it! They’re extremely social and sweet. Very well behaved for the moment 👏 . Couldn’t ask for more beautiful pups 💕

they’ll be available after all vetting and they’re well on their way to being potty trained.

Pups are on their way. They will be available when ready from the Heart of America Humane Society of Kansas city 💙

  • They’re coming tomorrow

the babies are coming tomorrow. Some are still needing fosters. I felt I could take the remaining girl, leaving only 2 that will need a place to land.

in the old days, my set up was quite easy. So I’ve had to put on my thinking cap since I’ve moved to a smaller more rural setting. I have pens and crates…playpens…toys. puppy pads, blankets. Oh boy…here we go!
